Project overview 

Popp is an emerging technology brand addressing the significant challenge of automating employment screening.  Founded by three executives with an incredible technical, business, educational, and experience pedigree that includes medicine, public sector, and armed forces, Popp is solving for injecting more human-based intuition and insights into the automation of candidate screening.  Instead of black and white screening criteria and rules, Popp allows recruiters to input an additional level of personal preference into automated screening so that candidate lists catch more than just word-matched CVs.  

The three founders were inspired to create Popp after starting up a COVID-19 public sector function and needing to hire rapidly, which they found difficult.  Popp’s founders are deeply committed to creating a business that is measured by value creation and meaningful outcomes, a perfect fit for the performance focus of Solace.  







The problem

Recruiters often face significant challenges in screening large volumes of candidates, which is time-consuming and inefficient. Traditional methods rely heavily on rigid, binary rules and keyword matches, leading to missed opportunities to identify candidates who meet nuanced preferences or unique role requirements. This inefficiency slows down the hiring process and creates frustration for recruiters trying to find the right fit quickly.




My Role

Through this project, I was design lead in the project and worked on building Popp from an MVP into a scalable product. Our goal was to streamline the screening process by introducing innovative features that blend automation with human intuition, significantly reducing the time spent reviewing candidates while improving the accuracy and relevance of results.






The solution

Leading involved crafting a balance between speed to market and rigor in design and content. We delivered strategic and tactical guidance across all stages, from design system creation, new feature development to designing actionable workflows that streamlined user engagement. In just a year, this approach led to impactful outcomes:


. Establishing contracts with some of the world’s largest recruitment companies
. Refining the product based on customer feedback and ongoing research to ensure continuous improvement
. Moving beyond basic product functionality to include branding, content ideation, and optimized calls-to-action, significantly speeding up the product launch while ensuring it met investor and customer expectations.
